Chicago, Atlanta, New York, October 20, 2017 - Brose North America, Inc. is the winner of this year’s GACC Apprenticeship Award. The Michigan-based company is awarded for its leadership and innovation in workforce development by implementing German standard apprenticeship programs in the United States.

The GACC Apprenticeship Award honors Brose for their efforts and investments in workforce development and education as well as the creation of valuable career pathways for young Americans. “Brose was selected as the winner by an independent jury of specialist for their global approach to training and their deep commitment to apprenticeships as a solution to close the skills gap in the US”, says Mario Kratsch, Vice President of GACC Midwest.

“Brose in Germany has a very long history in offering apprenticeships, and we are proud to have successfully implemented German-style apprenticeship programs in Michigan and Alabama within the last 4 years. After their 3-year programs, our management can hire as “ready to work” Brose employees who are well-trained and know our company culture,” elaborates Simone Grübert, Apprenticeship and Student Coordinator at Brose.

“As a global mechatronics company, we see the need to invest in the workforce of tomorrow. Training our own talent has proven the most successful way for us, and we have found some of our most accomplished employees through programs like this,” adds Arnd Herwig, Vice President Development at Brose North America.

The award also highlights the impact the apprenticeship model has made to the individual careers of the winning company’s apprentices.

“Getting out of high school I was not sure if college was the route I wanted to take. This apprenticeship program at Brose was able to provide me with the best of both experiences- using my education in the real world, in real time. I am already light years ahead in my professional career compared to that of my friends who are attending a 4-year college”, says apprentice Kevin O’Brien.

The GACC Apprenticeship award 2017 will be presented to Brose North America, Inc. at a special ceremony at RGIT (Representative of German Industry and Trade) on November 15, 2017 in Washington D.C. HE Dr. Peter Wittig, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, will open the ceremony, which takes place during National Apprenticeship week – raising the profile and highlighting the benefits of the dual training approach for companies and apprentices.
