Joaquín Almunia has been a member of the European Commission since April 2004 and Commissioner for Competition since February 2010. He  came to the Commission after  a long  career in the Spanish Government, holding  such positions as Employment and Social Security Minister and General Secretary of the Partido Socialista “PSOE” among others. He has also written several books and academic articles. For more information, please see here.
