Essen City Council approves the Financing Package and thus Gives the Green Light to the Modernization of the Exhibition Complex
The Essen City Council adopted a comprehensive restructuring package for Messe Essen GmbH ensuring the financial basis for a complex modernization program. This will serve to create replacements for Halls 4 to 12 and for the East Administrative Offices in the form of four new, spaciously designed large halls together with entrance and congress areas. "With this package, we have secured the future of one of our most important economic development areas, Messe Essen," according to the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Messe Essen, Lord Mayor Reinhard Paß.
The council's resolution plans to provide Messe Essen with a bond for a maximum of EUR 100 million in borrowed capital required for the financing of the forthcoming investments. The next step which must be done requires the approval of the district government.
By reviewing and adapting the company’s organization as well as the implementation of a savings and efficiency program, Messe Essen has already been successful in an internal restructuring and reorganization of the company in the last two and a half years. The council's resolution has created the basis for renovating the exhibition complex.
The plans, which are to be specified in more concrete terms now, are based on the "East Portal Variant" draft elaborated by GVE (Grundstücksverwaltung Essen GmbH). In addition to continuing modernization work during the ongoing fairs, it simultaneously offers the advantage of a new, attractive appearance of the complex in relation to the Rüttenscheid district of the city. "Thus, the fair site is now visibly becoming more modern to the outside as well. We thank all who have taken part in this demanding process with constructive participation and serious commitment," noted Frank Thorwirth, Chairman and CEO of Messe Essen GmbH.
