A.J. Scherman Named GACCs Trainee of the Year
Trainee Honored at the Seventh Annual German American Business Outlook
The German American Chambers of Commerce (GACCs) presented the GACC Award for Trainee of the Year to A.J. Scherman of STIHL Inc. The GACC Trainee Award recognizes outstanding individuals working for German subsidiaries who have demonstrated excellence in their workforce training programs.
A.J. Scherman is currently enrolled in the four-year Mechatronics Technician apprenticeship program at STIHL Inc. in Virginia Beach, VA. STIHL’s apprenticeship program is adapted from the German model of vocational training. In this “dual system,” trainees split their time between hands-on training and classroom education. Scherman was one of only 4 to 5 applicants out of 300 who were offered a spot in the highly sought-after apprenticeship program. He is currently working on a project in STIHL’s Technical Training Center to upgrade and modify their Festo training simulators, which are used by certified Festo instructors for training the apprentices, engineers, mechatronics & maintenance technicians.

Nigeria Williams Named GACCs Trainee of the Year
Trainee Honored at the Sixth Annual German American Business Outlook
The German American Chambers of Commerce (GACCs) today presented the GACC Award for Trainee of the Year to Nigeria Williams of MTU America.The GACC Award recognizes outstanding individuals working for German subsidiaries who have demonstrated excellence in their workforce training programs.
Trainee of the Year Nigeria Williams is the first young woman to participate in MTU’s Skilled Metal Worker program. MTU America nominated her because of her strong work ethic and willingness to learn. She is considered a valued MTU America team member who comes to work with a positive can-do outlook and eagerly takes on assigned tasks with enthusiasm. Her leadership skills also directly support MTU’s core value of continuous improvement, and serve as an excellent example to MTU’s other apprentices.

GACC Award 2013 "Trainer of the Year"
For the second time, the German American Chambers of Commerce (GACCs) presented the GACC Award. This year’s award honors the “Trainer of the Year” and goes to Mike Bryan of Bosch Rexroth in South Carolina.
He has been a trainer with Bosch Rexroth for 36 years and has trained 769 trainees to date. His company is one of the leading specialists in drive and control technologies, employing 38,000 people worldwide. For over three decades, Mike Bryan has been giving guidance, sharing his knowledge and leading hundreds of young people on a pathway to success.
The nominee was selected by a jury consisting of vocational training experts, among them professors from Columbia University and Johns Hopkins as well as German institutions. Juror Kathrine Newman, Dean at Johns Hopkins University regarding her choice stated: "Mike exemplifies the role of a leader in the apprenticeship movement by bringing his foresight and expertise to industries and to the community."
GACC Award 2012 “Trainee of the Year”
The German American Chambers of Commerce honored Florida’s Christina Chadwick with their first “Trainee of the Year” award during their annual German American Business Outlook conference in New York City on December 3, 2012.
By winning the award, Christina has underscored the efforts of German subsidiaries demonstrating excellence in building the future workforce. Christina was nominated by her employer Bauer Foundation Corp, which is based in Odessa, Florida. The company is a U.S. subsidiary of BAUER Group based in Schrobenhausen, Germany, a world-wide operating foundation contractor, designer and builder of foundation equipment.
