n a world where a large number of
international broadcasters are now
promoting a variety of views, it is all
the more important for us to persis-
tently stand for our shared values.
DW represents Germany in the
increasingly tough competition
within the international media
landscape.
For a nation as deeply rooted in the
European culture, and a liberal,
democratic state as globalized as
Germany, an international broad-
caster is highly important. More than
once, Germany has been called the
motor of European business. World
economic leaders rely on DW for
information on European business
and we continue to deliver with
in-depth features and analyses.
Germany and the United States of
America share experience, values
and interests. Cooperation in science
and research, or the negotiations
regarding the Transatlantic Trade
and Investment Partnership (TTIP)
– which would be the largest free
trade zone in the world – are good
examples for this transatlantic
partnership, through which we can
address many of today's global
challenges.
DW is Germany's international
broadcaster, offering TV, radio and
online content in 30 languages.
Since English is the lingua franca of
global decision makers, English-
language content will be extended
and will play a central role as the
'flagship' of all DW offerings.
Through more dialogue and interac-
tivity, we aim to increase the
relevance of our content to global
decision makers and political opinion
leaders. For that segment of the
target group in particular, we plan to
extend DW's reach on all its plat-
forms, thereby raising the number of
regular DW users from the current
101 million to 150 million. In the
coming four years, DW aims to
position itself as one of the top
international broadcasters.
In the future, DW will strive to be a
global information provider from
Germany. We will continue to play a
major role in shaping Germany and
modern Europe.
Sincerely,
Peter Limbourg
