Breakfast Roundtable:

"Global Challenges for Waste Management and Recycling"

Solid waste rates are rising fast. By 2100, it is estimated that the growing global population will be producing three times as much waste as it does today. This holds serious consequences for public services, government budgets, and the space consumed by landfills. Waste management and recycling is one way to protect the environment and to stop global climate change.

Germany is among the world leaders in recycling with high recycling rates. Public awareness for recycling and the logo "Grüner Punkt [Green Dot]”, introduced 20 years ago, is very high in Germany.

In the U.S., large amounts of waste are being disposed of in landfills. But recycling rates in the U.S. are increasing, especially in some larger cities in California and the Northeast. New York City is one of the leading cities in this movement and aims to reach its goal of “zero waste to landfills” by 2030.

The German American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. is kicking off the conversation on recycling and waste management with a breakfast roundtable on Thursday, September 29, 2016 from 8:30-10:30am.

The roundtable targets companies, organizations, associations, municipalities and other stakeholders in the recycling and waste management industry.
