Insurance Information

As participants in the J-1 visa program of the German America Chamber of Commerce you have the option of receiving Accident & Sickness Medical Insurance with the American International Group, Inc. (AIG).

With this coverage arising treatment expenses in case of illness will be reimbursed by the insurance.

The insurance card which you will receive provides your health care provider, e.g. a doctor or a hospital with the necessary information to confirm your coverage. The card does not guarantee payment. Please carry the card with you at all times.

  • You are not limited to certain health care providers but it is recommended if an affiliated provider is available. Sometimes it is easier to work with a provider that is affiliated with AIG through a PPO network. It will also assure that the bill will not exceed reasonable & customary charges. Go to the following link: HEALTH CARE PROVIDER DIRECTORY for a listing of physicians in your area. From there, it will ask you to enter a PIN. The number for the GACC is 3014. You may also call 1-800-878-7896 to find out about an affiliated provider in your area.

If you have any questions, call 800-683-1427, to speak with a Customer Service Representative for further details.

  • After your visit you may send the claim form to AIG. In case you were treated by an affiliated health care provider, he/she usually sends the bills directly to the AIG. In that case you only have to send in the claim form.

  • Otherwise, the provider has the option of having you pay upfront for your visit. In that case submit the bill along with the claim form (within 72 hours). The insurance will then reimburse your treatment expenses.

  • Claim forms should be completed fully, and only original bills are accepted. The claims department cannot give you detailed information if they don't have the claim to review and/or it depends on how the issue is.

  • You can download all claim forms on our homepage http://www.gaccny.com/index.php?id=493&L=15. Under the section “GACC Claim Forms” on the right side you may find all necessary forms and guidance on how to fill these out.

  • We recommend calling an AIG Customer Service Representative beforehand to make sure that the respective treatment is covered by the insurance, especially in cases of chronic illness or pre-existing conditions which are usually not covered.

  • If you have bills from the pharmacy for medication, submit them to the AIG along with a claim form and a receipt which states for what the prescriptions were and the receipts showing that you paid for them. AIG will then reimburse your medication expenses.

  • Please fill out a different claim for each date of your visit. Even if you are treated for the same issue and by the same doctor.
