Increase in the health insurance premium
The annual renewal of our group contract with Aetna Student Health for the insurance year 2012/2013 can only be completed with a fee increase of 11%. Aetna is basing the additional charge on the exploding cost trend of the US healthcare system. Further provisions have also been added that would mandate a $20 co-pay for each doctor’s visit and a $100 co-pay for each emergency room visit. Moreover, insurance holders must seek medical care within Aetna’s network to avoid paying additional out-of-pocket costs.
Although such changes naturally comprise an undesirable increase in expenses, Aetna’s additional charges reflect the current state of the US healthcare system and seek to lower the number of unnecessary Emergency Room visits. After considering other insurance options, we have decided to continue our cooperation with Aetna. Aetna is one of the most recognized health insurance providers in the USA. With its strong presence and experience in the higher education and exchange sectors, one of the closest-knit networks of doctors, and modern and simple administration, Aetna has proven itself as a reliable partner over the past years. Due to the price increase, we have been forced to readjust our monthly premiums accordingly. You will find here our updated price list, effective March 1, 2012.
