Second J-1 Visa

On this page you will find all necessary information concerning a second J-1 Visa.

  1. The second internship may take place at the original host-company.
  2. The second internship may take place at a new company.
  3. If the second internship takes place at the original host-company, the activities / tasks must be different than those of the first internship and be carried out at a more advanced level.
  4. Multiple J-1s (2 in total) are possible up to a total duration of 12 months, if the second internship begins within 12 months after completion of the first internship plus 90 days in home-country. The 90-day period in home-country is important because it clearly defines the notion of two separate and distinct internships.
  5.  If the second internship begins more than 12 months after completion of the first internship, the 2nd internship may be up to a total duration of 12 months.
