  • Germany's BaFin to work with U.S. on bond insurers
    (Bloomberg)

    German financial regulator BaFin plans to sign a cooperation deal with the insurance regulator in the state of New York to obtain more information about the risks of bond insurers, the Financial Times Deutschland said.

  • $10 million in tax-free loans to German company
    (Associated Press)

    Lebanon County has given approval to issue $10 million in tax-free loans to a German company that wants to make rubber flooring products in the Lebanon Valley Business Park. BSW GmbH's American subsidiary, Regupol America LLC, plans to use the money to buy 14 acres of land, floor space in two existing buildings and equipment.

  • Congatec AG expands to address U.S. market
    (Business Wire)

    Congatec AG, a leading innovator in embedded computing, said that it has incorporated a U.S. entity, congatec Inc., and will begin looking for a location for a California-based office immediately. The office will initially employ about 10 congatec employees headed by Ron Mazza.

  • Bayer Corporation to partner with United Nations
    (PR Newswire)

    Bayer Corporation announced it will partner with the United Nations Environment Programme's Regional Office in North America to help sponsor the 36th annual World Environment Day celebration. This event will take place on June 5 at the Chicago Botanic Garden.

  • Cephalon gets European OK to sell pain drug
    (Philadelphia Inquirer)

    Cephalon Inc., Frazer, said its oral medication to treat breakthrough cancer pain had received European regulatory approval. The drug, callend Effentora in Europe, was approved in the U.S. in September 2006 under the name Fentora. Cephalon said approval by the European regulatory commission meant the company could sell the treatment in the 27 states within the EU.

  • Siemens Energy won two big U.S. orders
    (United Press International)

    Germany-based Siemens Energy got two big contracts in the U.S. The major turbine producer announced it would provide 130 wind turbines to Washington state, providing about 300 megawatts for about $1.1 billion, and also won an order for a U.S. wind farm with a capacity of nearly 325 megawatts. Siemens will supply 141 units of its 2.3-megawatt turbines for the Biglow Canyon Wind Farm Phases 2 and 3 in Sherman County, Oregon.

  • German supplier opens tech center in Auburn Hills
    (Automotive News)

    The German company Kolbenschmidt Pierburg AG, which supplies engine components, recently opened its North American Technical Center in Auburn Hills planning to create 153 new jobs there.

  • 150 years of winemaking history returns to the U.S.
    (Business Wire)

    Racke GmbH + Co. KG, a family owned producer and marketer of super premium wines, announced a renewed focus and commitment to the U.S. marketplace through its subsidiary Racke USA. “We have made significant changes within our company and management team to demonstrate our commitment to the US market and we’re excited about what the future holds here,” said Marian Kopp, President of Racke USA that is now based in Sonoma, California.

  • European airlines profit from weak dollar
    (AHN News)

    While American air carriers are reeling heavily from financial losses due to the soaring cost of fuel, European airlines are benefiting from the weak U.S. dollar with a rise in U.S.-bound trips observed the past few months. As a whole, the global aviation industry is expected to suffer a 10 percent profit decline in 2008, the International Air Transport Association said. In the meantime, a report from the Visit USA Committee said 1.5 million travelers flew from Germany to the U.S. in 2007 while the number of Americans going via air to Europe remained flat.

    The Bayer USA Foundation announced it has awarded a $135,000 grant to Asset Inc. which stands for Achieving Student Success through Excellence in Teaching. Asset Inc. is the exemplary science education reform program Bayer helped to create in Southwest Pennsylvania in 1994, that today is considered a national model for industry-education-government partnerships.
