Monday June 6, 2011

After setting the goal to double U.S. exports in the next five years through the National Export Initiative, the U.S. administration launched the Export Control Reform Initiative (ECRI), which will fundamentally review the export control system. The strict and unclear export control system has diminished international competitiveness for US-based companies, as well as complicating efforts on critical national security priorities. The ECRI will be instrumental in strengthening national security, increasing the competitiveness of key U.S. manufacturing and technology sectors with focus on current threats, and adapting to the changing global economic and technological environment. On the other side of the pond, EU Member States will introduce a certification system and grant a general license for any transfers within Europe to all certified companies. This seminar and panel discussion will take a closer look at what the export control reforms include and what to expect of these regulations.

This evening event will feature presentations from:

Kevin J. Wolf: Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Export Administration

John Kornblum: Former US Ambassador to Germany, former Chairman of Lazard Germany

Holger Schmitz: Co-Head, Regulatory & Governmental Affairs Department, Noerr LLP, Berlin

John P. Barker: Partner, National and Homeland Security Practice, Arnold & Porter LLP
