German American Smart Cities Symposium

June 28, 2016 from 9:00am to 4:30pm

New York City is one of the fastest growing cities in the world. But the forecast of 9.1 million residents by 2030 is not the only long-term challenge New York City is facing. In 2007, the city released the groundbreaking initiative “PlaNYC” in an effort to address challenges like a growing city, changing climate conditions, an evolving economy, and aging infrastructure. In 2015, the "OneNYC" initiative was launched - a plan for a stronger, more resilient and more sustainable city.

The event builds on New York City’s vision for the future, bringing experts from Germany and local US innovators together to discuss ways to cooperate. Germany has been known for decades as a leader in energy efficiency and renewable energy. The event targets professionals, researchers and opinion leaders in the fields of energy efficiency in the infrastructure and in buildings, sustainable urban planning as well as waste, water, transportation and energy management.

Speakers include:

  • Brita Wagener, Consul General, German Consulate General New York
  • Dietmar Rieg, President & CEO, GACC New York
