Energy Efficiency Innovation Seminars

To inspire the next generation of students, the German American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. in New York (GACCNY) is organizing the Innovation Seminar Event Series at select New York area universities in the first week of December.

A select group of leading German companies from the field of Smart Cities will present their latest innovative products and reference projects which incorporate energy efficiency solutions from the Smart Cities sector. This serves not only as a great way for students to connect their classroom studies to real-world products and services but also as a unique networking opportunity.

The event series is sponsored by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy as part of the German export initiative for energy solutions made in Germany.

Event Details

The seminars will be held at the following  universities 

  • Farmingdale State College - Dec. 05, 2017
  • New Jersey Institute of Technology - Dec 06, 2017
  • New York University - Dec. 07, 2017

The seminars will include presentations by selected German companies and institutions, and feature an expert speaker from the Smart Cities sector in Germany.

The seminars will include opportunities for the students, their professors, and the participating German company representatives to meet and network in order to share best practices and foster future relationships.

Presenting Expert Speaker

Dr. Jan Fritz Rettberg

Head of Innovation Management, ie³ Institut of Energy Systems, Energy Efficiency and Energy Economics, TU Dortmund University

 

Dr. Jan Fritz Rettberg received a doctor’s degree in technology and innovation management at TU Dortmund University. Afterwards he joined the ie³ Institute of Energy Systems, Energy Efficiency and Energy Economics as executive of the Northrhine-Westphalian Competence Center for Infrastructure and Power Grids at TU Dortmund University. Besides other projects with a number of industrial partners he directs the main project of the Competence Center to establish a technology and testing platform for interoperable e-mobility, infrastructure and grids (TIE-IN). Dr. Rettberg coordinates the competence center’s different projects in the fields of transformation of the energy system and electric mobility. He is member of the scientific advisory council of the German Federal Association for eMobility. Furthermore he was responsible for the preparation of the Masterplan Energy Transition Dortmund and is now the representative of the L.E.D. Centre for Energy Transition Dortmund. He is coordinating the Smart City project of the City of Dortmund and its partners. Together with the Chamber of Commerce of Dortmund (IHK zu Dortmund) he develops regional approaches concerning energy transition and Industry 4.0.

Jon Lemmond
Baumann Consulting

Jonathan Lemmond joined Baumann Consulting as a Senior Engineer on the commissioning team in 2013, where he consults on a range of projects including measurement and verification, energy benchmarking, and energy audits. Prior to joining Baumann, Jon worked for the Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) where he was involved with AHRI standard updates as well as the U.S. Department of Energy’s efficiency standards and rules updates. Early in his career, Jon worked as a mechanical engineer and project manager for the Naval Facilities Engineering Command of the United States Navy. Jon left the Navy to attend the University of California, Berkeley where he earned Master of Science and Master of Engineering degrees from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

 
Bernhard Pfleger
Pixida USA Inc.

Bernhard is an enthusiastic technologist and leader in the space of Connected Mobility. With a degree in computer science and engineering from LMU University in Munich, he started his career as an IT-consultant for many high-profile clients in the automotive industry. He joined the newly founded company Pixida in 2009 and played a key role in the business development of Pixida in Germany and the US. First focusing on Telematics services for the automotive industry the company expanded its portfolio into IoT solutions supporting different clients in public transportation, logistics, insurance and the public sector. With its expertise and solutions, Pixida is shaping the future of connected mobility.

 
Michael Rockwood
Eluminocity

Mr. Rockwood is an experienced executive in the sensing, control, automation and electrical industries, having served in various leadership capacities at Honeywell, Inc., and in executive leadership roles in start-up technology-based businesses. Eluminocity GmbH is a Munich-based, BMW-sponsored company that provides IoT solutions for smart city and smart grid markets. With a focus on street lighting infrastructure, the company has developed smart products to improve the connectivity of street light networks and provide a critical link between infrastructure, vehicles and the grid. As General Manager, Mike manages all aspects of the US business. Mike holds an MBA from Texas A&M and regularly contributes to industry journals and speaks at industry events.
