J-1 Insurance Information
All participants enrolled in the J-1 visa program are required to participate in the group health insurance provided by American International Group, Inc (AIG). AIG is one of the leading international insurance organizations with operations in more than 130 countries and jurisdictions.
Because of AIG's strong reputation, the GACC negotiated an insurance program with the provider that ensures the international interns and trainees in the program have access to a quality health insurance at an excellent value while in the US.
By enrolling in the program with the German American Chamber of Commerce you acknowledge the insurance coverage is sufficient for your specific health needs, and you do not hold the GACC liable should an accident occur which exceeds the coverage maximums.
The GACC's insurance provider exceeds all Department of State guidelines for J-1 Visa health insurance and includes the following benefits:
Accidental Death and Accidental Dismemberment Benefit: | $10,000.00 |
Accident & Sickness Medical Expense Benefit (Primary): | $100,000.00 |
| |
| |
Medical Evacuation Benefit: | $30,000.00 |
Repatriation of Remains Benefit: | $10,000.00 |
Personal Liability Coverage: | $100,000.00 |
Participants will be covered for the entire duration of their program plus the 30 day grace period. It is important that you inform us of your exact travel dates or if you cancel your training, so we can inform AIG and refund any monetary amounts, less an administrative fee, to you.
Please be aware however that the plan is not designed to cover all services, such as the treatment of pre-existing conditions or extreme sports. If you feel that there is a specific rationale for you to enroll in an alternative plan, please present the reason and plan outline to Kirsten Herrmann at kherrmann(at)gaccny.com for review.
Complete coverage information is available here. You should refer to this page for frequently asked questions and how to complete claims forms. All information is available for you to quickly reference on the right side of this webpage.
You will receive your insurance card when you receive your DS-2019. Please keep the insurance card with you at all times, as the contact information listed on the card is important for confirming your coverage and you will be asked for your insurance card every time you need medical care.
The cost of insurance is covered in the total service fee for the procurement of a J-1 visa Certificate of Eligibility (DS-2019) and is approximately $60 per month. Your individual invoice will be detailed by visa fee, insurance cost, and where applicable priority processing. If you will be receiving a reimbursement from your company for any part of the total fee you will be able to present your detailed invoice as necessary.
